Presidential aspirant Senator Panfilo Lacson said Wednesday he offered a “unification effort” to Vice President Leni Robredo to go against the administration in the 2022 national elections, but the latter “resisted.”
Lacson made the remark following his meeting with Robredo were among those tackled was unification by putting up a common candidate who will face the administration in next year’s elections.
“I offered her a sure unification effort or formula to unite in the end. There was resistance. I won’t discuss the details, pero yun ang nakikita ko talaga (that’s what I see),” Lacson said in an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel.

“She resisted. Hindi siya sold dun sa idea (She is not sold with the idea) but it was a sure formula for putting up, at least between the two of us, a common candidate but unfortunately, she didn’t buy it,” he added.
Robredo’s office earlier confirmed the meeting between the Vice President and Lacson to discuss a possible coalition for the 2022 elections.
Robredo’s office said the meeting was a part of the vice president’s commitment to “forge the broadest possible unity among groups and individuals seeking change in 2022.”
As for Robredo’s 2022 plans, the Vice President has yet to make a final decision but has previously said that she is “open” to running for the presidency.
Should Robredo push through, she will face Lacson who has announced his presidential bid with Senate President Vicente Sotto III as his running mate. (NM)
