Satellite images from a geospatial intelligence firm reveal over 100 ships that were in the vicinity of the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).
US-based firm Simularity, suspect that these are Chinese ships that dump tons of human waste and sewage on the waters that surround Spratly Islands.

“As of June 17, 2021, approximately 238 ships are in the Philippines’ Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ). Sewage effluent sources in the Spratly Islands include ship wastewater and human habitation without sufficient sewage treatment. When the ships don’t move, the poop piles up,” read part of Simularity’s 14-page report.
In total, satellite imagery has detected 236 ships nearby the Pagkakaisa Banks and Reefs and in Union Banks.

Another 11 ships were spotted near the Pag-asa Island, which is part of Palawan provincial government’s jurisdiction.
To date, the Philippines has built several structures at the aforementioned island including a health center, a kindergarten school, a town hall, as well as an airstrip and a naval station.
