Kuwait is suffering from a lack of household service workers due to reduced recruitment requests in this regard from the Philippines.
Head of the voluntary committee for studying the file of domestic workers “under publicity” Bassam Al-Shammari revealed that household service workers in general, including maids from the Philippines, are not willing to work in Kuwait.

Al-Shammari noted that that the local offices in Kuwait are still suffering from a lack of domestic worker recruitment requests from Manila.
He said this was because of Kuwait’s rules on administrative deportation, and no transfers to different sponsors. This prompted OFWs and other expats to prefer neighboring countries instead.
The Philippines Embassy in Kuwait had begun receiving –after a three-year suspension — bilateral contracts called “Job Orders” arranged between local offices licensed after 2018 and their counterparts in Manila to recruit domestic workers, he said.

Describing this step as extremely important, he said this allowed offices in Kuwait to recruit large numbers of Filipino domestic workers into the local market, while also meeting the acute shortage experienced by them for over a year.
However, the surge in the numbers of Filipina domestic workers could be expected in the next three months to increase the supply for meeting the huge demand for their services, he added. (AW)
