Trillanes says he won’t run in 2028, backs Risa Hontiveros

and will instead focus on supporting a candidate he believes is deserving of the country’s top position.

Speaking in an interview, Trillanes was asked if he intends to run in the next national elections.

“Wala po,” Trillanes replied.

[Translation: None.]

“Talagang magpo-focus na lang ako sa pagtulong do’n sa karapat-dapat na kandidato sa 2028,” he added.

[Translation: I will focus on helping a worthy candidate in 2028.]

The former senator said that, at present, the candidate he and the Magdalo group are supporting is Senator Risa Hontiveros.

“At sa ngayon nga, ang aking posisyon at ang posisyon ng aming grupong Magdalo, ang susuportahan ay si Senator Risa Hontiveros,” Trillanes said.

[Translation: As of now, my position and the position of our Magdalo group is to support Senator Risa Hontiveros.]

Hontiveros has frequently been mentioned by opposition groups as a possible contender in the 2028 presidential race, although she has yet to formally announce her plans.

Trillanes, a former Navy officer and longtime Duterte critic, ran for vice president in the 2022 elections and has remained active in national political discussions after leaving public office.
