The Indonesian government has honored the successful efforts of the Joint Task Force Tawi-Tawi (JTFT) troopers when they rescued four of its citizens who were kidnapped by Abu Sayyaf rebels in Tawi-Tawi.
The Indonesian government, through Philippine Consul General Dicky Fabrian, presented a certificate of commendation to JTFT commander Brig. Gen. Arturo Rojas, that praised the Filipino troopers’ bravery in the rescue of the Indonesian fishermen.

Fabrian personally presented the commendation to the Marines during a visit at the 2nd Marine Brigade headquarters in Barangay Sanga-Sanga, Bongao town on June 26.
Highlighting the military’s dedication to strengthening the bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines, he urged for continuing the two countries’ good relations for the common good.
JTFT commander Rojas thanked the Indonesian government for the recognition and assured that the military would intensify its mission in securing both Indonesians and Filipino seafarers in the southern part of the country.

Earlier, the rescue mission had resulted in the deaths of Manjan Sahijuan — alias Apo Mike — leader of the Abu Sayyaf kidnapping group, and his two followers, apart from two other bandits that were captured in the encounter.
Lt. Gen. Corleto Vinluan Jr., chief of the Western Mindanao Command, while thanking the Indonesian government for recognizing the Filipino soldiers’ brave efforts, expressed hope for fostering better understanding while relentlessly addressing security concerns on the shared maritime waters. (AW)
