The Cebu provincial government is seeking to assist returning residents — whose international flights were diverted to Manila by national government order and now have to book an extra domestic flight to Cebu.
This subject was discussed in a June 11 meeting with government and private sector representatives, Cebu Governor Gwendolyn F. Garcia said, adding that they need a contingency plan in case the diversion of Cebu-bound international flights is extended again.
The governor said they would also talk to the airlines to come up with an arrangement about the airfares.
The order to divert flights — which came about from an impasse between the national and provincial governments over quarantine protocols for ROFs — was in effect from May 29 to June 5, before it was extended to June 12.
An executive order by the governor and an ordinance passed by the provincial board states that returning overseas Filipino workers and other residents should stay in a hotel for two to three days after being swabbed for coronavirus testing upon arrival.
