The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) has urged the government to increase the cap to allow more healthcare workers to be deployed abroad.
This appeal comes in the wake of the POEA’s temporary suspension in the overseas deployment of medical professionals, after reaching the 5,000 annual cap for new hires last June 1.

However, with the pandemic situation affecting jobs in the country, the POEA stated on June 8 that it had recommended to the health department and the coronavirus task force to increase deployment rates for nurses and other health care workers who wish to work abroad.
POEA Administrator Bernard Olalia said that apart from the increase in the deployment cap, there is also a recommendation to the IATF and TWG to widen the exception to enable deployment of more workers. (AW)
