Isko Moreno on presidency: ‘You cannot force your relatives to succeed you’

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno remains unsure of his political plans for the 2022 presidential race.

Moreno was among President Rodrigo Duterte’s choice for his presidential bet next year, based on the list released by Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque.

This include Sara Duterte, Bongbong Marcos and senators Bong Go and Manny Pacquiao.

In an interview on CNN Philippines, Moreno said that he is not yet entertaining 2022 political plans. He remained however grateful for the trust and endorsement of several groups.

Moreno said that he will only run only if he believes that he needs to and not because he was endorsed by anyone or any group.

When asked on who should be the toughest competition in the presidential bets, Moreno said that he will not vote for someone who only inherits the position.

“Basta hindi ako boboto sa nagmamana lang ng pwesto,” Moreno said.

Moreno was pressed further if he was referring to Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte. Moreno clarified that he was only issuing a ‘general statement’ and that none of the presidential bets has officially announced their candidacy.

In a separate interview on ABS CBN News Channel Headstart, the Manila mayor said: “Ang demokrasya ang taumbayan ang pumipili, hindi ipinipilit yung mga kalahi nya pagkatapos na niya. Hindi ako naniniwala dyan and I am not gonna vote for that as a voter and I disagree as a citizen of this country,” Moreno said.

Moreno and Sara are among frontrunners in recent presidential and vice presidential surveys.
