A 17-year-old Emirati drowned off Ras Al Khaimah while swimming Thursday afternoon.
The uncle of the victim said the boy was swimming with his cousins off the coast of the Rams area, about 12 kilometres north of Ras Al Khaimah when strong waves came.

The uncle told Gulf Today, they all got out of the water, but Abdulaziz was swept away by a strong current and he drowned.
The rescue teams dispatched in the area pulled out the boy, identified as Abdulaziz Marawan Al Shehhi.

The boy was taken to Saqr Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah in an attempt to revive him but he was declared dead at the hospital.
He was the second victim of drowning in the emirate after a 5-year-old boy drowned off a beach near Al Maahad. (RA)
