2 Pinoys in India die due to COVID-19, 20 others infected – ambassador

Philippine Ambassador to India Ramon Bagatsing Jr. on Tuesday confirmed that two Filipinos succumbed to COVID-19 in India while 20 Filipinos contracted the virus.

“It is really bad here. May dalawang nasawi [na Pilipino]. We learned they were positive in April 23 then April 26, wala na. It happened very fast.” Bagatsing was quoted as saying.

The envoy said the situation in India is getting worse as the country battles the vicious second wave of infections.

“Parang traydor talaga itong virus na ito. Ang buong India ay naghihirap,” he said during the Laging Handa public briefing.

“Maingat kami kasi lockdown dito. Napaka-virulent at nakakahawa itong ‘double mutant strain’ kaya ingat na ingat din kaming umikot,” he added.
Bagatsing said they are communicating with 20 Filipinos infected with COVID-19.

“We communicate through social media or phones and they tell us what they need. We try to find a way to bring it to their doorstep,” he said.

The envoy said the infected OFWs are currently confined and isolated.
