12 beggars in Dubai arrested on the first day of Ramadan

Dubai Police arrested at least 12 beggars on the first day of the Holy Month of Ramadan, as part of the police force’s intensified crackdown on illegal begging.

Colonel Ali Salem, Director of the Department of Infiltrators at the Dubai Police, said that under the ‘Let’s Combat Begging’ campaign more patrols and police personnel have been deployed in areas frequented by beggars.

He called on UAE nationals and expats alike not to give alms to beggars, as it will tolerate their illegal acts.

Instead of giving alms, he suggested donating to authorized charities.

The public can also report beggars to the toll-free number 901 or through the Police Eye service via Dubai Police App.
