COVID-19 penalties still in effect as UAE authorities remind residents to follow precautionary measures amid New Year’s Eve celebrations

The National Emergency Crisis and Disaster Management Authority (NCEMA) has reminded residents that penalties and fines for individuals found breaking COVID-19 preventive measures will still be in effect during the New Year’s Eve celebrations happening around the country on the evening of December 31.

In a series of tweets, NCEMA explained that while celebrations will indeed be joyous and festive, residents should always keep safety on top of their minds to avoid the spread of the coronavirus disease in the country.

“This evening, the #UAE is witnessing many events and celebrations to welcome the new year, so let us all celebrate and commit to abiding by all precautionary measures and instructions accompanying these events, so that we and our families and our loved ones can celebrate safely,” read the tweet from NCEMA.

This, as NCEMA noted a spike in the number of COVID-19 cases for the past few days: “In the past few days, we have observed an increase in cases of the #Covid19 virus in the country. We remind our people, especially during the holidays and celebrations season, of the importance of adhering to the precautionary and preventive measures announced by the health sector since the beginning of the crisis.”

Authorities confirm that those who will be found violating any of the preventive measures will face fines and other legal measures.

“We also confirm that the application of penalties is still in effect, and the authorities are monitoring violations in public places, and control teams will be activated at the state level to ensure compliance with the approved laws and procedures,” read the tweet from NCEMA.

NCEMA affirms the public that authorities are working round the clock to ensure that everybody stays safe as the country ushers in 2021.

“Management community works around the clock to ensure the safety and health of the community and to preserve the nation’s economy. Let us celebrate safely. May God protect you and bless our dear homeland with security and safety,” read the tweet from NCEMA.
