The Philippines’ COVID-19 task force vice-chair and Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año revealed to the public that he has tested positive once again for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
Secretary Año stated that he began experiencing flu-like symptoms such as body aches and sore throat last August 13. He then stated that he immediately quarantined himself and underwent a swab test the following day.
“Last night, August 15, I received my test result informing me that I am once again positive for COVID-19. In the meantime, I am being closely monitored by my doctors while I am in isolation,” the interior secretary said in a statement.

The COVID-19 task force vice-chair first contracted the disease last March 31 and recovered within two weeks last April 13.
He urged those who were in close contact with him to also begin their quarantine to avoid the spread of the disease.

“I make this announcement to call the attention of all persons I had close contact with to go on self-quarantine, observe any symptoms in accordance with DOH guidelines, and take appropriate action,” said Año.
“I also make this announcement to emphasize the severity of the virus, and to encourage everyone to wear a mask, wash their hands frequently, and practice social distancing. By adhering to these guidelines, we can all help keep our loved ones and our community safe,” he added.
