WATCH: Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid chairs 1st physical meeting of new UAE Cabinet

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, chaired the first physical meeting of the UAE Cabinet since February.

At the beginning of the meeting, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid praised the country’s success in operating the first peaceful nuclear reactor in the Arab world as well as the successful launch of the Hope Probe.

The Vice President announced the new UAE Cabinet meetings will continue from August instead of September due to the exceptional circumstances.

His Highness stressed the importance of focusing on economic matters saying, “We approved 33 initiatives presented to us by the new Economy Minister and established a committee to follow up on implementation.”

“We restructured a number of councils and issued new appointments. We discussed the government’s structure for the upcoming period and the most important new changes to keep pace with the priorities of the next stage,” His Highness added.

During the Cabinet meeting, it approved the establishment of Union’s General Budget Committee, chaired by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai and Minister of Finance; HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, as Deputy Chairperson; and the membership of HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Gergawi, Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Obaid bin Humaid Al Tayer, Minister of State for Financial Affairs.

The Cabinet also greenlighted the new structure of the Education Council, chaired by HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Furthermore, the Cabinet approved a number of decisions, including, the appointments of HE Dr Sultan Al Jaber as Chairman of Emirates Development Bank, HE Suhail bin Mohammed Faraj Faris Al Mazrouei as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Emirates General Petroleum Corporation, HE Sarah bint Youssef Al Amiri as Chairman of the Board of Directors of the UAE Space Agency, HE Dr Ahmed bin Abdullah Belhoul Al Falasi as Chairman of the Council for Projects and Small and Medium Enterprises, and HE Ohoud bint Khalfan Al Roumi as Head of the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.

It also mandated HE Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoud, Minister of State for Foreign Trade, for retaining and attracting talent, and HE Dr Ahmed bin Abdullah Belhoul Al Falasi, Minister of State for Entrepreneurship and Small and Medium Enterprises, to boost the tourism industry in the country.

On another level, the Cabinet approved a policy on Freezing Red Blood Cells for emergency purposes.
