The Filipina doctor who was fondly remembered for her angelic voice by her colleagues succumbed to COVID-19 on Sunday following a reinfection, reported GMA News.

Dr. Karen Senen first fought the coronavirus in June. She was later on discharged from the hospital in July 3.

However, few days after recovering from the virus, the doctor started to feel the symptoms again.

“Ang big unknown po ay ganito: Magkakaroon ba ng COVID ang tao na nagka-COVID na? Hindi pa po masyadong klaro ‘yan. Dahil po ang mga antibodies na napo-produce ng mga tao na naka-recover, kaya nga tayo nakakapag-donate ng plasma, hindi pa rin po alam kung gaano katagal ito nasa sistema mo,” Dr. Jonas Del Rosario, PGH Spokesperson said.

Her husband Jerome told GMA News that Karen became burned out since the hospital she was working with became a COVID-19 center.

“And I think it’s one of those factors kung bakit nga siya tinamaan ng sakit. Pagod and stress din aside from being exposed to the virus,” he said.

Jerome even recalled the moment when Karen started showing signs of reinfection.

“Nawalan siya ng pang-amoy, nawalan siya ng panlasa, nawalan siya ng ganang kumain and then nakaramdam na ulit siya ng hingal, pero this time around kasama na ang fever na napakataas. Nagfo-40 siya,” said Jerome.

“A few days later mga early morning of Monday, July 13, sobrang bumababa na talaga yung oxygen levels niya sa blood, talagang hirap na hirap na siya, hindi na kayang i-sustain iyong high-flow nasal cannula na binibigay nila for her,” he added.
