The Filipino youth prove that they’re a force to be reckoned with after winning an impressive number of medals at the recently concluded World Scholar’s Cup Tournament of Champions held at Yale University, November 8 to 13.
From thousands of students from over 62 countries, the Winchester School – Jebel Ali, an international school that offers British curriculum education, announced in their Facebook page that the school has bagged 11 gold and 24 silver medals.
Two Filipino students, Naomi Klaire Remo, senior student, and Regina Abigail Del Rosario, junior student, were among the 11 representatives for the Tournament of Champions. Naomi won gold for the Writing Challenge, and two silvers for Subject Award and Team Writing, while Regina won a gold medal for School Scholar award category and a silver medal for the Individual Debate.
According to the school’s statement on social media, while this may be the school’s first time to participate, the World Scholar’s Cup had proven the prowess of their student’s young mind when pitted at the international stage.
“The students had an opportunity to exhibit their critical thinking skills through perceptive and decisive arguments in 6 different areas on various topics which include, Special Area – Unsolved Mysteries, History – Neglected Histories, Social Studies – On the Edge of Society, Science – Enabling Technologies, Art & Music – Louder than Words, Literature – Voices from the Margins. They also engaged in collaborative writing, with topics ranging from exploring creative scenarios to making persuasive arguments,” said the school in a statement.
The 11 scholars have earlier this year qualified at a 2019 Global round held in Beijing, China.
