Honest airport cleaner returns bag with estimated Php430k cash

A cleaner at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) was commended for his honesty after he returned a bag that contained € 7,000 (P430,000) cash and some gadgets.

The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) shared online how Sixto Brillante, Jr. didn’t take advantage of the situation and reported it to the Lost and Found Section of the Intelligence and Investigation Division.

An unknown passenger called the attention and informed Brillante of the black sling bag possibly left behind by another passenger.

Brillante asked the assistance of his partner assigned at the female comfort room to help him locate the owner through the paging system prior to its turnover.

One-and-a-half hour later, a Turkish passenger came to claim the bag. He underwent verification process and authorities found out that he was really its owner.

The cash inside the bag was placed in two white envelopes. There was also a wallet and an iPad.

MIAA General Manager Ed Monreal lauded the airport cleaner for his honesty.

“Mr. Brillante could have easily kept the bag and favorably benefitted from what’s inside it, but he chose to surrender it. I admire him for his integrity. Hearing stories like this makes us Filipinos proud,” said Monreal in a Facebook post on MIAA’s verified page.

The airport chief also encouraged other airport workers to always practice the virtue of honesty in any situation that may call for it.
