Actor Bugoy Cariño broke his silence over netizens’ accusations against his partner, former volleyball star EJ Laure.
The controversy started when Bugoy posted a photo of him with Laure and confirmed that they do have a child named Scarlet. It was revealed during Bugoy’s 18th birthday celebration.
“HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO ME! Happy to have a family na mahal na mahal ako. Pagsisikapan ko pong itaguyod ang blessing na ito. Thank you for your unending support and I love you both, Mommy EJ and Baby Scarlet!” he wrote.
The post has caused mixed reactions from some netizens who accuse Laure of pedophilia. They said that Laure took advantage of Bugoy’s age and having a relationship with a minor is a big no-no.
Netizens also expressed concern on the relationship noting that Laure was 19 years old while Bugoy was only 15 when they had Scarlet.
“O ‘wag niyo daw i-defend. G na G si ate. Opo, alam namin na may mali sa ginawa namin, pero para i-judge kami basta basta? Ibang usapan na po ‘yun,” Bugoy said in a tweet.
He added that people don’t know their real story.
“Hindi niyo po alam buong story namin. At least ako kahit bata pa pinanindigan ko lahat ng responsibilidad ko at hindi ko po tinakbuhan,” he said.
Bugoy was a member of the boy group Hashtag but left in 2017.
Laure was a former team captain of UST Volleyball team but did not play for a season because of a shoulder injury. She was then rumored to be pregnant.
