Manila: Jodi Sta. Maria admits that she felt nervous upon taking on the role of a possessed woman in the horror film ‘Clarita’.
The upcoming film was inspired by true stories of an exorcism incident in the 1950s.
Sta. Maria said in an interview with CNN Philippines that she even asked her pastor for guidance before doing the role. She said she needs her spiritual adviser’s blessing because the story might attract ‘bad elements’.
“Parang napagdudahan ko rin ‘yung sarili ko na I don’t think I’ll be able to pull this off, but that’s exactly what I needed to say yes to the project,” Sta. Maria said.
Sta. Maria admitted that ‘Clarita’ won’t be another ‘exorcism’ film.
“It’s actually a very good platform for me to show people that this is not just your ordinary exorcism film. If you’re really going to look at it, the story is about God’s love. He does not leave us in the dark, he will always be with us wherever, whenever.” the actress said.
‘Clarita’ is also Sta. Maria’s first portrayal of a possessed woman. The actress believes that doing horror roles is also a dream opportunity for her.
Clarita is set to premiere on June 12 nationwide.
