More Abu Dhabi residents are exercising and adopting healthier lifestyles, with physical activity participation reaching a record high in 2025, according to the latest government survey.
The fourth Abu Dhabi Sports and Physical Activity Survey found that 60.3 percent of residents now meet World Health Organization physical activity standards, up from 53.6 percent in 2024.
The survey was jointly released by the Abu Dhabi Department of Community Development and the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and gathered responses from approximately 31,000 participants in 2025, compared with 21,000 respondents the previous year.
Among UAE nationals, participation rates increased significantly to 54.3 percent from 45.6 percent in 2024.
The survey also showed improvements among children and adolescents, with 14.8 percent now achieving the recommended 60 minutes of daily physical activity, up from 12.5 percent a year earlier.
People of Determination likewise posted gains, with 46.5 percent meeting recommended weekly activity levels, compared with 43.7 percent in 2024.
Public satisfaction with sports events and activities organized by the Abu Dhabi Sports Council rose to 83 percent from 78 percent, while satisfaction with sports infrastructure and services increased from 76 percent to 78 percent.
Awareness of community sports events also improved, climbing from 21 percent to 25 percent, while awareness of international sporting events hosted in Abu Dhabi increased from 22 percent to 24 percent.
Mohamed Helal Al Balooshi, Executive Director of Community Engagement and Empowerment at the Department of Community Development, attributed the gains to expanded sports infrastructure, additional walking and cycling tracks, and programs tailored to different age groups.
Officials said the findings reflect Abu Dhabi’s broader efforts to promote healthy lifestyles, strengthen community participation in sports, and improve overall quality of life across the emirate.
