Kapamilya singer Darren Espanto was chosen to be the second Filipino talent to make an appearance and perform in China’s international singing competition titled “Singer 2019”.

Espanto flew to China and performed on the finals night of “Singer 2019” which was aired on April 12.

Together with Russian singer Polina Gagarina, Espanto sang a powerful rendition of Michael Jackson’s classic song “We Are The World”.

Prior to his departure, Espanto expressed his excitement to perform on the show.

“I’m very happy na napili po ako to guest to sing sa finals ng ‘Singer’ in China. The first time na narinig ko po ‘yung news, na-excite po ako na kinabahan and I had mixed emotions. Pero mostly happy,” he said.

Espanto also said that he talked to the director and producers of “Singer 2019” three months before his performance.

“’Yung mga taga China po, they contacted me through my record label and they asked if I could guest nga po. Actually I went there and I got to meet the director and the team behind it. They asked me to sing a few songs din po. Nagulat po ako na a week and a half ago, they said na mag-guest nga daw po ako sa finals,” he said.

Before Espanto, fellow singer KZ Tandingan made an appearance and competed on the same show last year.

Even though she was not able to win the contest, Tandingan said that her experience on the show was unforgettable.

Espanto said that he also received some pieces of advice from Tandingan before flying to China.

“Si Ate KZ po actually ‘yung isa sa mga unang nag-react when I posted a photo when I visited there. Sabi niya, ‘Ah, alam na.’ She was supportive of me. Sabi niya ‘Huwag kang kakabahan. Marami kang pagdadaanan diyan. She’s just so supportive,” he said.
