Filipino comedienne Ai Ai delas Alas took it to Instagram to tell her followers to respect each other’s faith and religious beliefs.
Delas Alas, a Catholic and a known Marian devotee, received the highest award given by the Pope to lay people in 2016. She was awarded the Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice for her “distinguished service to the church.”
As seen in her Instagram post on June 26, she emphasized on upholding respect towards diverse religions, beliefs, and cultures.
“Good morning. Everyone must be conscious and respectful when talking about other people’s religion.
“Insulting someone else’s religion is insulting something meaningful to them. You don’t have to agree with other people’s religion and their beliefs but you don’t need to disrespect them.
“All religions, beliefs, and cultures deserve the same amount of respect even if they are different from your own. God bless,” she wrote.
Aside from that, she posted another photo related to God.
Delas Alas did not mention anyone specific in her two posts, but she shared the photos during the hype of President Rodrigo Duterte’s controversial remarks against God and the Catholic Church.
In two different speeches, Duterte called God “stupid”, and described Jesus’ apostles as “idiots”.
Duterte has since then defended himself saying that he has freedom to have his own religious beliefs and that he believes in a universal being who is “more supreme than the rest of the gods of men.”
