For their commemorative Fourth of July issue, Marvel released a series of Captain America comics which featured the works of different illustrators including Pinoy comic artist Leinil Francis Yu.
It’s not the first time for Yu to draw his favorite superheroes. Having drawn four issues of Star Wars, he never thought that he would reach a peak beyond that.
Yu admitted that it was a privilege to work with famed novelist Ta-Nehisi Coates in his fresh take on Captain America. Next to Superman, this superhero is his favorite.
Yu was also able to draw many superheroes including Wolverine, which gained him his popularity for his style.
“His early wolverine stuff aggravated me, all bulky and the way he drew the claws. But as time went on and he did X-men and New Avengers I absolutely admired his gritty style and take on our heroes,” said one fan.
Take a look at the following illustrations by Yu:
Marvel’s The Punisher created by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru and John Romita Sr.
Ghost Rider:
Wolverine and The Hulk in one illustration.
Yu said that he has drawn Captain America before as a part of The Avengers but never his in his own comic. So he considered this opportunity as a “geek out moment.”
The issue of Yu’s Captain America was released to coincide with the Independence Day in the US, July 4.
