DUBAI: Just like anywhere else in the world, you’ve got to first secure a driver’s license before getting behind the wheel in the UAE. It does not only allow you to drive legally. It is considered as an official government issued ID as well.
So, if you want to get a new UAE driver’s license, here’s how.
In getting a driver’s license in the UAE, there is only one required document – your valid Emirates ID. An applicant must also pay according to the following service fees:
– Dh100 for issuing a new driving license if the customer is younger than 21-years-old
– Dh300 for issuing a new driving license if the customer is older than 21-years-old
– Dh20+ for knowledge and innovation fees
Step-by-step process in service centers:
– The customer submits all the documents at the driving institutes or registration offices licensed by the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA)
– The driving institute opens a traffic file for the customer
– The customer undergoes an eye test at one of the authorised optical shops by RTA
– The customer receives the permit to start the driving lessons
– In case the customer passes the tests, he receives a license from the driving institute
– In case the customer fails, he must take 8 new lessons and book another appointment for the final driving test.
Other necessary information, terms and conditions, and frequently asked questions are in the website of RTA.
