Duterte to take private plane to Singapore “to save money”

President Rodrigo Duterte will board a private plane when he leaves for Singapore next week to attend the 32nd ASEAN Leaders Summit.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque on Monday, April 23, said that Duterte will go onboard an 8-seater plane during his trip from Davao to Singapore.

“[The purpose is] to save money. It’s expensive to charter a plane and a leaner delegation would mean lesser cost for taxpayers,” Roque said in a Palace press briefing.

The announcement comes after the President announced he is planning to go with a smaller delegation for the trip.

Lawmaker Gary Alejano has earlier called the president a “hypocrite” for firing government officials taking unnecessary trips when he himself went with a large delegation during his latest visit to Hong Kong.
