Resorts World Manila attack fatalities identified

Resorts World Manila (RWM) has released the identities of 29 of 36 people who died at the casino hotel on Friday, when a lone gunman tried to burn the place down.

In the list revealed by RWM Chief Legal Officer Gina Alvarez to the media, 11 dead employees were identified as Hazel Yango, Jellah Ramos, Melvin Herrara, Arvi Gavino, BJ Pagsibigan, Rojie S. Uy, Jessica Alindogan, Merylle Gwen Ala, Lea Grace Mozo, Loudette Santos, and Kay Nuguerra. The identified of two more employees who were among the fatalities are still being validated.

The names of 18 guests who died are: Caccam Katherine Cervantes, P Ling Hung Lee, Pacita Guillermo Comquilla, Pomenciano Vargas Jr., Susan Abulencia, Lai Wei Chung, Jaime Gaboy Jr., Ariel Abrogar, Lai Yu Cheeh, Cliff Reyneira, Rolando Pena Sison, Eluterio Reyes, Antonina Yuzon Allanigue, Sheila Malicse, Carmelita Taylo Dela Cruz, Mielle Oliveros, Pamela Silvestre, and Elizabeth Gonzales.

The identities of four other guests who were also among the dead are still being verified.

“It is with deep regrets that we confirm that there were 35 casualties in this trafic incident, of which 13 are employees and 22 are guests,” the management of RWM said in a statement.

“We are doing our best to inform the families of the victims. We are extending all forms of assistance to the affected next of kin. We are one in mourning with the families of those affected by this tragedy,” said the statement from RWM.

A total of 36 people, including the attacker, died in the incident and not 37 as reported by the media, Southern Police District chief Senior Superintendent Tomas Apolinario said.

Authorities are not yet revealing the name of the gunman as they are still verifying his identity and if he was a regular player at the casino.

Meanwhile, RWM clarified the attacker was alone and there were no other gunmen contrary to media reports. The casino management also said security guards shot and wounded the gunman forcing him to retreat to a room, where he committed suicide by burning and shooting himself.
