It requires two to tango, but sometimes, a mother has to do it solo.
As if being a parent is not hard enough, some mothers need to battle all challenges alone without thinking of them as inconveniences.
For a single mother, being a strong and tough individual is an understatement because a single parent should be tirelessly compassionate.
This is why Angelica Villanueva thinks her mother as an “iron lady” for enduring all the hardships brought by the early separation of her parents.
Angelica said her 54-year-old mother Ma. Joylyn Villanueva had to raise them alone since she was inside her mother’s womb.
“As early as three years old, my mom already told me that my father would not be able to look after us and support us,” Angelica said.
Angelica only met her father when she was 14 years old, but her mother has always reminded them to not develop hatred for their mother.
“My mother has always told me and my brother that even though our father is not with us, she knows that he loves us and we will meet him at the proper time,” Angelica said.
Angelica recently graduated as cum laude in the Polytechnic University of the Philippines with a degree in journalism. She attributes her success to her mother who has constantly motivated her since she was young.
“My mother is a supermom—a mom and at the same time, a superhero. She’s ‘only one call away and who will be there to save the day.'”
Angelica does not consider his family as an incomplete one because her mother’s love has fed them—not only with meals, but with genuine touch that can make wounds heal.
“I received pure love. She is ready to give and sacrifice everything to make us happy and live comfortably,” Angelica said.
What would she tell her mom on Mother’s Day?
“We may not be the perfect children in the world but we will be forever grateful that you are our supermom. I know that God has sent you to us because He knows that you will be His instrument in this world to help us to be with Him again. We love you so much, Ma.”
To all kinds of mom, happy Mother’s Day!
