Tulfo urges senator-judges not to use impeachment court for personal matters

Senator-judge Erwin Tulfo on Saturday urged his fellow senator-judges not to use the impeachment court to address personal issues unrelated to the trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

Tulfo said the impeachment court was created solely to hear the case against Duterte and should not be used to defend personal positions or respond to issues unrelated to the proceedings.

The remark came after Sen. Robin Padilla used the proceedings to deny Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla‘s statement that he failed to submit a counter-affidavit in connection with an obstruction of justice complaint.

While acknowledging Padilla’s frustration, Tulfo said senators who wish to explain their side should do so outside the impeachment court, including through press conferences or social media.

He said using the court’s limited time for personal matters is unfair to Duterte, whose impeachment case is the court’s sole responsibility.
