Malacañang on Saturday denied Senator Alan Peter Cayetano’s claim that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. rejected a proposal to provide P10,000 in cash assistance to Filipinos still recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement, the Palace accused Cayetano of making baseless allegations and said it would present evidence to counter his claims.
The response came after Cayetano said in a Facebook livestream that he had proposed the cash aid before the 2022 elections because many Filipinos had yet to recover from the pandemic, but claimed the proposal was rejected after Marcos assumed office.
Cayetano also questioned why the government was now able to fund expanded assistance programs, alleging that funds were only released after public money had supposedly been misused.
The Palace rejected the allegations and accused the senator of shifting blame for his own shortcomings instead of presenting factual evidence.
