The UAE Public Prosecution has expanded its investigation into the publication of a false report claiming explosions were heard in central Dubai.
Attorney General Dr. Hamad Saif Al Shamsi said authorities have recorded the statement of the reporter and summoned those responsible for preparing, approving and publishing the report.
The investigation will examine the roles of those involved, the editorial procedures followed before publication and whether legal and professional standards for verifying information were observed.
Al Shamsi said the investigation aims to determine responsibility and whether legal action is warranted based on its findings.
He added that the news agency’s decision to withdraw the report and issue a public apology does not end the investigation, stressing that legal accountability will be determined in accordance with UAE law.
