The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is closely monitoring the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump of a two-week ceasefire between the United States and Iran, while seeking clarification to ensure Iran fully commits to halting hostilities and reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
In a statement, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) highlighted that the unprovoked Iranian attacks over the past 40 days, which included 2,819 ballistic and cruise missiles, as well as drones targeting infrastructure, energy facilities, and civilian sites, caused significant loss of life and property damage.
The ministry also emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach addressing Iran’s nuclear program, ballistic missiles, drones, military capabilities, and affiliated proxies and terrorist groups, while ending threats to freedom of navigation, economic warfare, and piracy in the Strait of Hormuz.
The UAE expressed hope for achieving sustainable peace across the region and reaffirmed that it is not a party to the conflict, noting its intensive diplomatic efforts to prevent the outbreak of war through bilateral channels and initiatives within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC).
