The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has offered to host more Filipino nurses and “give them a chance to earn a decent living and up their skill set”, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. said Friday.
Locsin on Twitter shared some of the discussions during his phone call with Saudi Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir.
“The Kingdom offered again to host more Filipino nurses where they are deeply appreciated; not deprecated and detained back home,” Locsin said.
“Give them a chance to earn a decent living and up their skillset; then get recruited by Western countries which is fine with the Kingdom,” he added.

According to a separate tweet by the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the two leaders discussed “bilateral relations between the two countries and issues of mutual interest.”
In June, the Philippine government increased to 6,500 the annual deployment ceiling for newly hired healthcare workers overseas.
“Healthcare workers under government-to-government labor agreements shall, however, be exempted from this adjusted ceiling,” Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque earlier said.
