President Rodrigo Duterte has cautioned Filipinos to prepare for the worst of the COVID-19 situation as new COVID-19 variants continue to spread in many parts of the world.
Duterte said that the pandemic is getting more and more difficult as time passes.
“We do not have a guarantee that the vaccines should be forthcoming on time, na walang maraming mamamatay. And if it is a more serious mutant variant, we’ll just have to prepare for the worst,” he said.
Duterte added that he already greenlighted the government’s move to procure more COVID-19 vaccine shots.
He maintained that he was willing to sell government properties if pandemic funds ran out.
“Kung medyo papalapit na at marami na tinatamaan, then we will go full blast in making everything operational,” Duterte said.
“With the advent of the new variants, it is good to prepare for a more serious attack,” he added.
The Philippines has so far confirmed 12 cases of the more transmissible variant first detected in India.
