Public and private health institutions have begun administering the Sinopharm vaccine that was recently approved and registered by the Ministry of Health and Prevention.

Bareen International Hospital at the Mohamed bin Zayed City in Abu Dhabi, for instance, has recorded 40 residents who have lined up to take their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine on their first day on December 13 at 4:00 pm.

“The whole process includes two shots. The first shot is on the day when the patient comes to us (Day 0) and the second shot is after 21 to 28 days,” explained Joann Panisales, Director of Nursing at the Bareen International Hospitals.

Many more have lined up to get the jab across other private hospitals and clinics run by the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA).

On December 9, the UAE approved the Sinopharm vaccine that was found to be 86 percent effective during the Phase III trials held in the UAE and other countries.

Individuals who wish to register only need to be above 18 years of age and bring their Emirates ID with them.

“UAE citizens and residents can call Bareen Call Center at 025545555 or go walk-in at Bareen International Hospital 1st Floor Saturdays to Thursdays, 9am to 5pm and Fridays, 2 to 8pm. They just need to present their UAE ID and Al Hosn app records. They also need to ensure they did not participate in the COVID-19 vaccine trial,” explained Panisales, who shares that their facility expects around 100 patients per day.

The Vaccination Journey

Panisales shared that all residents who wish to be vaccinated will undergo five quick steps, with the entire process taking place in less than one hour. This involves a doctor’s assessment to gauge if the person can be allowed to take the COVID-19 vaccine, in accordance with the guidelines set by the health ministry.

“Our process is short. It covers 5 steps. 1st step is registration, 2nd step is nursing assessment, 3rd step is a consultation with the doctor, 4th step is vaccine administration and 5th step is an observation of the patient for 20 minutes to see if there is any drug reaction before they go home,” explained Panisales.
