The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has spread to every region in the Philippines after the northeastern Mindanao region registered its first case of the disease.
The first case was identified as 68-year-old male patient from Butuan, who went home to the city last March 12, CNN Philippines reported.
Department of Health-Caraga Regional Director Jose Llacuna Jr said the man was quarantined upon his return and was later admitted at the Caraga Regional Hospital in Surigao City.
The patient, who was initially listed as Person Under Investigation (PUI), has an underlying illness including diabetes and chronic obstructive lung disease.
Dr. LLacuna said the patient was diagnosed with the disease on Monday and currently under stable condition.
The Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit is conducting individuals who came in close contact with the patient including his flight details, the doctor added.
According to the latest tally from the Department of Health, the Philippines has 3,246 COVID-19 cases including 152 deaths and 64 recoveries.
