A four-year-old girl from Cagayan Valley in the northeastern part of Luzon and a 23-year-old man from the National Capital Region (NCR) add to the list of this year’s victims of fireworks-related injuries days before Christmas.
The two victims experienced burn injuries, one caused by kwitis while the latter has yet to be determined, as per a report from the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
According to Department of Health (DOH), children from ages five to nine were on a higher risk of firecracker-related injuries compared to any other age range in 2018.
Earlier this month, Health Secretary Francisco T. Duque advised the people of the harm caused by pyrotechnics and its looming number of cases during the year-end season.
“We are continuously communicating to the public the dangers of fireworks use. The DOH is advocating alternative and equally enjoyable ways of celebrating the holidays and welcoming the New Year without the risk of physical harm,” he said.
In 2017, President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Executive Order No. 28 that regulates the usage and production of fireworks for safety regulations.
