The Mactan-Cebu International Airport issued an advisory that 41 flights have been canceled
in the wake of Typhoon Tisoy (international name: Kammuri)
Avigael Ratcliffe, corporate communications junior manager of GMR Megawide Cebu, said aircrafts bound to El Nido, Palawan and Caticlan, Aklan were added to the canceled flights as planes bound to these destinations are ‘narrow-bodied’.
Ratcliffe explained that the cancellation of flights going to Manila was due to the shutdown of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) because of Tisoy.
“The airlines released their advisories that they were canceling flights to Manila. Their advisories came prior to the announcement of NAIA posted on its official Facebook page,” Ratcliffe told the Philippine News Agency in Cebuano.
No advisory affecting Cebu-bound international flights was released.
The management of MCIA, she said, has expected an influx of passengers on Wednesday (Dec. 4) as the airlines rescheduled the canceled flights on that day.
“So far, there is no congestion at the domestic terminal because the airlines gave out advisories as early as Sunday. The passengers affected by the cancellation opted not to go to the airport anymore,” she added.
In the 9 a.m. advisory released by the MCIA, the canceled flights of Airswift were T6 332 El Nido-Cebu (8:40 a.m.), T6 336 El Nido-Cebu (1 p.m.), T6 333 Cebu-El Nido (10:50 a.m.), and T6 337 Cebu-El Nido (3:10 p.m.).
