Manila, Philippines- Annual problems hounding the opening of classes persist including the lack of school classrooms, but a teacher in Cavite is also raising concerns on the plight of teachers.
“After class, syempre gusto ni teacher magpahinga kahit saglit, makapag-relax naman. Saan siya titigil pansamantala? Sa ilalim ng hagdan at dating CR,” Maricel Herrera shared on her Facebook page.
Herrera is the president of the teachers’ association in Bacoor National High School. She said what makes the situation worse is that the teachers need to shell out money to convert the comfort room.
“Kulang na nga ang sweldo gagastusan pa ang sana ay maayos na faculty room…
Kaya next time pag may parent na naghanap sa teacher ang isasagot: Hanapin nyo po sa mga ilalim ng hagdan o CR,” Herrera said.
Herrera is also a member of the militant group Alliance of Concerned Teachers.
Education Secretary Leonor Briones said they will look into this report but, considered it an isolated case in an interview with CNN Philippines.
DepEd officials said current facilities were prepared to handle this year’s 27.8 million students. There were, however, 66,050 additional classrooms.
