The college teacher of Omarkhayyam Maute, one of the leaders of armed extremists holed up in Marawi City, expressed sadness over the destruction of their school, Dansalan College, by the latter.
Minalang Barapantao Jr. told GMA News he could not believe what happened to his former student, whom he described as “di makabasag-pinggan” (proper), and why he burned the only Christian school in Marawi City.
Maute was reportedly radicalized after studying Islamic Theology in Egypt and propagated the Islamic State ideology to others, including his brother, Abdullah, who also took up Christian education at Dansalan College.
The military said Omakhayyam is already dead and his brother is leading the rebels resisting government forces in Marawi.
