UAE tops Bloomberg COVID-19 resilience ranking anew; PH back at bottom spot

The United Arab Emirates retained its leading position in the latest Bloomberg COVID-19 resilience ranking, with a resilience score of 78.9.

The UAE was followed by Saudi Arabia, Finland, Turkey, and Singapore on the top list.

Meanwhile, the Philippines landed at the bottom spot of the resilience ranking, making it the “worst place to live” during the pandemic.

The Philippines ranked 53rd among 53 countries with a score of 48.3.

The country slipped three notches in December after a three-month streak occupying the bottom spot.

“Difficulties administering vaccines in remote areas continue to be a vulnerability as the country sees an Omicron surge worse than other Southeast Asian countries like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Thailand,” the Bloomberg report said.

Bloomberg said that Asian countries are having a hard time rolling out their vaccines over logistical issues.

“Poor health infrastructure, lack of trained staff, and difficulties accessing rural populations are slowing rollouts in poorer places,” the report said.
