‘Like a prisoner’: Duterte discourages presidential aspirants anew

President Rodrigo Duterte warned presidential aspirants over long hours of work and measly income that come with the post.

“You know, sabihin ko sa inyo, huwag kayong mag-presidente kay wala talagang… Sabihin ko maliit ang suweldo, wala ka,” Duterte said in his sixth and final State of the Nation Address on Monday.

He added that some people were forced into corruption because of the demand of the job.

“If you are not there really for the — mag-corrupt ka diyan, well, it would make you a billionaire overnight. But kung magtrabaho ka lang ng ganito,” Duterte said.

Duterte also lamented his limited time while working in Malacañang due to the strict security measures.

“Itong PSG hindi ako pinapalabas. Magsabi ako magpunta ako doon, ‘Sir, hindi puwede ‘yan, hindi puwede.’ Kulong talaga ako. Mag-presidente ka, sa totoo lang,” he said.

The President meantime discussed the perks of riding a helicopter to visit places, but immediately insisted that being a president is like a prisoner.

“You are brought here, kunwari ka pa de-chopper ka, de-guwardiya, tapos uwi ka doon sa bahay mo, tapos hindi ka na makalabas. Preso ka talaga,” he added.
