OFW dies while waiting for unpaid salaries, benefits

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) died in Saudi Arabia while waiting for his unpaid salary and benefits from his employer.

The OFW, identified as Larry Rancap, died in a hospital in Saudi due to lung cancer, his daughter Lennylene Rancap Ongkiatco told GMA News.

Rancap worked as an auto diesel mechanic for 25 years at a trading and contracting company in the Gulf state. Ongkiatco, however, said that despite the years of service that her father gave to the company, no assistance was extended to their family when the OFW was confined in the hospital.

Ongkiatco added that the company also owes his father two years worth of salaries and end-of-contract benefits.

“Sabi po ng kumpanya wala daw po silang pera, kaya sobrang sakit po sa aming pamilya na pinabayaan po ang tatay ko. Talagang hindi po siya inasikaso. Pinabayaan siyang mamatay,” Ongkiatco said.

Meanwhile, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has already reached out to Rancap’s family. The government is also working on the immediate repatriation of the OFW’s remains back to the Philippines.
