The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) is intensifying its crackdown on online overseas job scams and illegal recruitment schemes targeting aspiring overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).
Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac said the agency is sustaining its campaign against fake online overseas job postings through strengthened partnerships with Meta Platforms Philippines and TikTok Philippines.
From 2020 to 2026, authorities removed 146,871 illegal recruitment-related posts from Facebook and another 57,557 from TikTok, according to data presented during a Senate Committee on Migrant Workers hearing on Monday, May 25.
Cacdac said the DMW has also strengthened its online surveillance and monitoring operations through the Migrant Workers Protection Bureau to better shield aspiring OFWs from illegal recruitment and exploitation.
The agency is also exploring closer coordination with the Department of Information and Communications Technology following recommendations raised by Senator Raffy Tulfo to improve the detection and removal of fake overseas job advertisements online.
At the same time, the DMW said it is expanding partnerships with government agencies, local government units, social partners, and the Inter-Agency Council Against Trafficking to strengthen public information campaigns, rescue operations, and legal assistance for victims of trafficking and recruitment scams.
The intensified campaign comes as authorities continue to warn Filipinos against fake online job offers promising high-paying work abroad but later leading to illegal recruitment, trafficking, or financial scams.
