UAE announces school, work schedules during Ramadan

The UAE has released the schedule of work and school classes across the country during Ramadan, two weeks before the Holy month is set to begin.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) said students will attend up to five hours of classes a day during Ramadan.

Schools were also instructed to halt physical exercise (PE) classes and other rigorous physical activities, in accordance with customary rules for Ramadan school timings.

Aside from physical activities in school, students are also encouraged to avoid outside activities to brush aside the risk of dehydration and exhaustion.

Meanwhile, the UAE’s Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) announced that working hours during the month of Ramadan will be from 9 am to 2 pm.

FAHR also urged all staff to be punctual during this time. In case an employee of a federal agency or department cannot come to work during Ramadan, FAHR said he or she must immediately inform his or her direct superior regarding the matter so that proper adjustments can be made.

Exceptions to the aforementioned work schedule will be given to government staff and officials who do not sign in at work.

The first day of Ramadan is expected to fall on May 17.
