OFW shot dead hours after arrival in PH

An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) who just arrived from Saudi Arabia was shot dead hours after his arrival Monday night in Pasig City.

Eastern Police District Pasig City police chief Senior Supt. Orlando Yebra Jr. identified the OFW as 47-year-old Ricardo Monteroyo.

According to Yebra, Monteroyo received two fatal shots in the head around 8:20 in the evening.

The victim went straight to his cousin’s place after arriving in the airport from Saudi. He was about to meet with his wife when an unidentified man gunned him down and was declared dead on the spot. Two cartridges were recovered from the crime scene.

Monteroyo’s wife, Miraluna, told police officials that the OFW had been receiving death threats after his involvement in an investment scheme years prior.

“Sometime in 2015, he joined an investment, networking activity and recruited other people. The investment failed so the [investors] were after him. The wife learned about this in 2016,” PO2 Danilo Damasco said.

Monteroyo worked in Saudi for 10 years as an electronics and communications engineer.
