DOLE to launch OFW ID on July 12

The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) announced that the Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) identification card which will replace the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC) will be launched on July 12.

This identification card, called ID of the Department of Labor and Employment or iDOLE, could be used to process Social Security System, Pag-IBIG Fund, and Philippine Health Insurance Corporation transactions.

Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III said the government also plans to turn iDOLE into passports. “Maybe given another six months, we [can] adopt a system [wherein] this iDOLE can serve as their passport,” Bello said in a Malacañang briefing on July 4.

DOLE will collaborate with the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration to facilitate a hassle-free issuance of the iDOLE.

“Hindi na kailangan mag-apply. If you are an OFW, bibigyan ka na kasi nandoon ka na sa roster ng OFWs, so they will start processing your ID and we will give it to you,” Bello said.

The Filipino community in the UAE rejoiced over the news that the government will scrap the OEC, which migrant workers deemed as unnecessary.
