President Rodrigo Duterte has approved a wage subsidy program for 3.4 million middle class employees affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
Cabinet Secretary Karlo Nograles announced Tuesday that the President gave his green light to cash assistance program for some 1.6 million small businesses and their employees, GMA News reported.
Under the Small Business Relief Program, affected employees might be given Php5,000 to Php8,000 in May. The amount will be based on their minimum daily wage.
The cash assistance will be given in two tranches next month.
According to Nograles, the assistance will be deposited directly to the bank accounts of employees or through SSS Unified Multi-Purpose ID cards.
Qualified workers are those who were employed beginning March 1 and did not receive salary.
As of 2018, 40 percent of the Philippine’s population belong to the middle income class as per Philippine Institute for Development Studies.
