Dubai-based British photographer injured after vape explodes in pocket

Graham Tooby, a British photographer, had to be treated for burns after a vape device that was placed in his pocket exploded, The National reported.
The 48-year-old was injured in the accident that happened in his home in Dubailand during a party on New Year’s Eve. He believed that believed the lithium battery of the device was damaged.

Since the incident, he has been in and out of the hospital to undergo skin grafts and ward off infection.
Tooby advised vapers to regularly check the battery of vape devices and if one notices any sign of damage  should be disposed immediately.
The number of vapers across the world grew from seven million in 2011 to 41 million by 2018, based on information from the World Health Organization.

The sale of vape devices and e-cigarettes became legal in the UAE in April 2019.
Tooby’s wife, Kate, said her husband’s livelihood was affected by his injuries.
“He has not been able to work for seven weeks, and it’s upset the children to see their dad in a wheelchair.”
