Malacanang: Duterte to side with US if OFWs hurt in Middle East conflict

President Duterte will side with the US if Filipinos in the Middle East were harmed by the rising military tension between the US and Iran, Malacañang Palace said.

Presidential spokesman Salvador Panelo said the Philippine government will not stay neutral if a military conflict breaks out in the Middle East.

“The President was very specific in saying last night that if the Filipinos are harmed, he will side with the Americans,” Panelo said.

The President already sent his adviser on Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) to Iran and Iraq today  to send an urgent appeal that no Filipinos be harmed in the course of the conflict, Panelo said.

The presidential spokesman added that chief executive will not sit down idly and watch if Filipinos were harmed.

Panelo told reporters in Malacañang that the Duterte’s main concern is the safety and welfare of Filipinos in Iraq and Iran.
