Authorities in Abu Dhabi have initiated a social media campaign informing drivers and parents of the risks involved when they allow their children to sit on the front seat of their vehicle.
Abu Dhabi Police recently launched an awareness campaign which reminds the parents and motorists that they would be fined with Dh400 if they allow their children under 10 of age or kids less than 145cm in height to sit in the front seat of their car, as per their official post on Twitter.
They posted a picture of a child sitting in the front seat with a caption “Launched a campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of children riding in the front seat of a vehicle”.
According to the Abu Dhabi Police, there were proven studies where the impact a child could experience in an unrestrained seat is equivalent to that of a fall from 10 meters. A car seat would ensure their safety and security if an accident occurs.
“An infant car seat is designed to protect your child in the event of a crash by forming a protective shell,” they said.
In 2017, UAE implemented the seatbelt law which determines front seat passenger restriction including child seat requirements.
